Welcome to City University of Seattle!

By now, you've probably noticed. City University of Seattle is definitely "on the move." We have a new look and a new logo. We've even started changing the way we talk about ourselves. Over the past few months, we've been working hard at updating our image so that it matches our exceptional reputation. We want the world to know that today–more than ever before–CityU is the place where motivated students with full lives can achieve their goal of pursuing higher education.

As part of this overall effort to better communicate who we are and what we promise to deliver, I am excited to announce that City University has officially amended its name to City University of Seattle effective April 1, 2007, and CityU of Seattle will increasingly become our trademarked nickname.

Why the name change?

First, we wish to identify strongly with the geographic region we call home. Here and abroad, Seattle is viewed favorably as a flourishing metropolis renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit and progressiveness. Seattle is synonymous with growth, innovation, and technological proficiency. The city–along with its entire surrounding region–has risen to great eminence as a hub for all things good. Seattle embodies the same attributes we hold dear and strive for in our mission and vision for the future.

Second, we have conducted market research with students and alumni worldwide and found most to be very supportive of making the change.

Third, renaming ourselves City University of Seattle will help set us apart from the myriad of other City Universities worldwide. From now on, when people hear our name, they will immediately have a clear idea of who we are and what we are about.

And finally, our new name will serve us greatly as we move forward with bold plans of global expansion and making accessible education a reality for "anyone with the desire to achieve". For over thirty years, CityU has been a pioneer in the way it educates. With far-reaching and forward-thinking programs, we've provided choices and freedoms for thousands of people who otherwise would not have been able to earn a degree. From delivering both in class and online learning to offering "globally connected" experiences to promoting diversity in the classroom, CityU has always been a model institution. Our goal for the 21st century is to continue being a model institution–for as many students around the world as possible.

It's true–CityU is growing and experiencing success in more ways than we could have ever imagined. As a valued CityU supporter, you are one of the reasons why. It pleases me greatly to share with you our exciting changes. Thank you for being a part of our success story.
