Conferences and Workshops in 2014

The sixth conference entitled Management Challenges in the 21st century: 2014 (focus of the year 2014: “Fostering Entrepreneurship: Small and Medium-Sized Businesses as Pillars of Economic Growth”) took place on VŠM premises on April 23, 2014.
The conference’s objective was to focus academic discussion on various problematic areas of small and mid-size enterprises and possible ways to support them. Small and mid-size enterprises make essential and more-or-less stable contribution to gross domestic product in developed economies as well as in Slovakia. The conference topics included analysis of financial aspects and the main managerial and marketing issues faced by SMEs, start-ups, family enterprises and non-for-profit organizations. The objective of the conference was to create a venue for discussion of innovation and application of knowledge management and education to stimulate innovation activities in SMEs.

The conference sections included:
Key Managerial and Marketing Challenges in SMEs
Knowledge Management and Education as Stimuli of Innovation in SMEs

The accepted articles were 32 contributions by 39 authors from 24 universities and institutions from 5 countries (USA, the Netherlands, Hungary, Czech Republic and Russia). 27 contributions were presented during the conference. The conference proceedings are published on the VŠM website, and they are often cited by VŠM students, e.g. in online classes, which proves the importance of the proceedings in enrichment of research activities as well as the learning process.

The 10th Workshop on Knowledge Management took place on October 17-18, 2014, as a significant forum for teachers and PhD. students in the area of knowledge management. The workshop participants from 3 countries presented 24 contributions. As every year, electronic proceedings with ISBN were published.

Other Publication Activities of Faculty and Doctoral Students of VŠM

Besides the mentioned activities taking place on the VŠM premises, faculty members and doctoral students of VŠM presented 10 contributions at foreign conferences in 6 countries (Czech Republic, Macedonia, Portugal, Austria, Serbia, Spain, Italy) and 4 contributions at local conferences organized by other research institutions.
