Instructional Materials
Our goal is to provide adequate print resources for all CU/VŠM programs and their students while covering costs. This is made possible through an Academic Resource Fee System, which includes textbook rental, copies of additional materials, instructor materials, and other materials used for the course.
A majority of the official titles required for our academic programs are expensive foreign textbooks typically difficult to obtain in Slovakia. Therefore, in order to ensure reliability of appropriate textbooks in 2001 CU/VŠM introduced the Academic Resource Fee System. As a result, students are guaranteed a wide range of instructional material services, including textbook rental, photocopied handouts, instructor packets, and other materials used in classes. Thus, the modest Academic Resource Fee reduces student expenses on learning materials since it prevents them from purchasing costly, up-to-date professional literature for each course on their own (some texts may cost over 100 USD). The actual burden of procuring expensive foreign literature is transferred to the university's shoulders, as the university purchases textbooks and lends them to students.
By paying the Academic Resource Fee, students contribute to a common budget which is used only for the purposes described above. Providing textbooks for our various programs is highly labor-intensive and cash consuming, but non-revenue producing. Thanks to this, CU/VŠM ensures the quality of programs offered since all students are provided with the proper material for their studies.
Paying the Academic Resource Fee
Students of the 1) BSBA program, 2) Bc. program in English, and of the 3) MBA program have an obligation to pay the Academic Resource Fee for each course they wish to register for.
Proof of payment of the Academic Resource Fee must be presented at the time of registration. Otherwise, students are not allowed to register without this proof of payment.
The Academic Resource Fee is non-refundable and is different for each educational program:
- Bc. program in English and/or BSBA (including IT Specialty) - 15 eur/ course
- Bc. program in Slovak - No Fee (students obtain textbooks independently)
- CC - No Fee (textbook sold – cca 20-25 eur)
- IEP - No Fee (textbooks sold - from 1.50-25 eur)
- MBA - 17 eur/ course
However, not all CU/VŠM programs are part of this system. Students of the Intensive English Program (IEP) and students of the Community Courses (CC) have to buy their textbooks. Even in this case, CU/VŠM facilitates this process by offering these books for sale at CU/VŠM sites. The reasons the textbooks used in these two programs are not part of the Academic Resource Fee System are:
- 1) Students of the Intensive English Program need textbooks in which they can write (so another student usually cannot use the textbook). Plus, IEP textbooks are more affordable, and thus, these texts are directly sold to students.
- 2) The situation of Community Courses students is the same, students need to purchase their student book and workbook for reasonable prices.
Moreover, students of the Bachelor's Degree Program in Slovak are a special case since they are responsible for obtaining their own textbooks, which are inexpensive and easily available titles, through bookstores of independent distributors.
To pay the fee in Euro, students can use a postal order found at the Admissions Office or simply pay to the following bank accounts (for example through Internet Banking):

- Bratislava students: 202861503 / 7500 (Vysoká škola manažmentu)
If you want to pay in SKK while being outside of Slovak republic, please, use the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) account number to execute the payment.

BSBA Textbook Distribution
BSBA textbooks are distributed from the textbook rooms (Bratislava - on the first floor - room #114 - right by the elevator; Trenčín - on the ground floor - room #102 - turn left as you enter the building) during the first week of classes and also during the first two days of Week 2 (a more detailed schedule can be found on bulletin boards at each site). Please pick up your textbooks on these days!
An important note for DL Students: please be aware that DL students are responsible for requesting to have books shipped (at their own expense - Slovakia only) at the time of registration. If they do not do so (or do so later), then they are responsible for picking up their books personally at the Trenčín/Bratislava sites during the first week of the term or during the first two days of Week 2 (the same as daily students). To make sure that particular books are present at the site, it is highly recommended to contact the Instructional Materials Coordinator before the actual visit.
Please be aware that students are responsible for damages sustained to the textbooks in their care. Within one week of receiving textbooks, students are advised to carefully inspect their textbooks and report any damages. Students may be held responsible for damages later discovered that were not claimed. This may include fines of up to the actual cost of the textbook!
BSBA Textbook Collections
After classes are over, students must return all rented materials on time. Days, hours and places of textbook return are announced in advance through fliers.
- BSBA Students Must return all textbooks IMMEDIATELY after the quarter ends. This means by the first Wednesday after the last day of classes at the latest.
- BSBA DL students Should return all textbooks as soon as possible. This means by the second Wednesday after the last day of classes at the latest.
To maximize resources, we closely tailor the number of copies of any given textbook to the number of students expected. Consequently, it is vitally important that students return textbooks in a timely manner and in their original condition, so that future students have textbooks available to use.
If you do not return your textbooks on time, you will face the following consequences:
- 1. You will automatically be charged by sum 13.20 euro for BSBA materials and 16,50 euro for MBA materials to your account every trimester until the books are returned
- 2. You will not be loaned any additional textbooks.
- 3. Grades for all your courses will be held by the admissions office and not recorded in the university's system.
- 4. You will not be allowed to register for any courses and will be prevented from using other university services (library, confirmations, etc.).
- 5. Students who do not return their textbooks after one quarter will be sent a payment coupon for the full value of each textbook, plus a 25% service fee. Please be advised that some of our textbooks, especially at the graduate level, can cost over 100 USD. If payment of the coupon is delayed, legal proceedings will be initiated.
MBA Textbook Distribution
MBA students can pick up their textbooks on the first day of a course (usually a Saturday). At Trenčín's site, a textbook office is available for this purpose ( #212b on the first floor). On the other hand, students of courses at the Bratislava branch are not supposed to pick up their textbooks in the library, but in the textbook room (on the first floor - room #114 - right by the elevator).
